Otázka kontinuity mezi římskými collegii a středověkými arti

The Question of Continuation between Roman Collegia and Medieval Arti

Terezie Pilarová

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 13-31 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.001

A part of the question of the continuation of Roman jurisprudence in the period of early medieval times in the area of the Apennine peninsula is also the problematics of the continuation of guilds. The non-interrupted evolution of guilds from the Classical times to the High Middle Ages, as well as the question of the extent of the Roman legal influence on the form and content of medieval guilds, does not represent an opinionable agreement among legal historians. The small amount of surviving and researched sources does not provide a firm support for an undoubtful claim about continuation or discontinuation of guilds in the Early Medieval Period. Nevertheless,...

Consilia jako pramen poznání středověkého římského práva

The Consilia as the Source of Medieval Roman Law

Miroslav Černý

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 33-47 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.002

Medieval lawyers, in particular glossators and, to a much greater extent, their followers postglossators, followed up on the practice of ancient Roman law, where the Pontiffs and then lay lawyers of the classical period first issued a response that was not only an instrument for interpreting valid law, but also a source for the creation of a new law. The medieval consilia means pronouncing or writing a legal opinion on a legal issue. Thematically consulted on the issues of state law, borough rights of Italian towns , inheritance law and family law. The consilia were issued not only at the request of private persons, but also at the request of the judges,...

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 49-68 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.003

The British Isles in the 16th century was an area filled with religious and political changes which were often fundamentally interconnected with the international political situation. Unions were quickly made as well as cancelled. The power rivalry between England and Scotland was not new. Nevertheless, the imperial wishes of Henry VIII. started a period of Tudor campaigns, which outcome was not a unity of insular kingdoms under the reign of the English king but an the international crisis which reached the beginning of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Early modern relations between England, Scotland and Ireland are yet at the margin of an academic...

"Šťastná jest neplodná a neposkvrněná a ta, jenž nepoznala lože v hřiechu." Virginity and the Reception of Luther's Marital Reform in the Texts of Protestants and Bohemian Brethren before 1620

Aneta Kubalová

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 69-97 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.004

In this study, I concentrate on the theme of virginity in the Protestant normative and moralist texts in the Czech lands before 1620. The article deals with the texts of Bohemian Brethren and the reception of Luther's marital reform, which was accepted in the Utraquists' and Lutherans' texts in the second half of the sixteenth century and the first half of the seventeenth century. The question of virginity in the environment of Bohemian Brethren was reflected in the spirit of the collectiveness of an illegal sect; Lukáš Pražský defended the primacy of virginity in the light of the inheritance of medieval understanding of a corporal purity, but a few...

Palmerston and the Birth of Independent Belgium

Jiří Vyčichlo

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 99-121 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.005

The formation of an independent Belgian state became a key event in the period of John Henry Temple, Viscount Palmerston. It influenced his position of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Great Britain. The Belgian revolution, which broke out because of the July events in France, meant the end for international arrangements from 1815, which was created at the Congress in Vienna. Palmerston was a convicted supporter of Belgian independence. According to his political opinions, independent Belgium was a warranty of preserving balance on the continent and sustaining peace in Europe. London became the centre of diplomatic dialogues regarding...

V upomínku Čechů v Chorvatsku: analýza krajanského památníku z počátku 20. století

In memory of the Czechs in Croatia. Analysis of a Compatriot Memorial from the Beginning of the 20th Century

Jana Kočí, Václav Kočí

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 123-134 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.006

The Czechs in Croatia represent the biggest compatriot community in south-eastern Europe, thus many scientists take an interest in this topic. Nevertheless, there is a lack of research concerning archival sources, including ego-documents. The analysis of a compatriot memorial from the first half of the 20th century, of which this case study is about, is, therefore, the first attempt of its kind. It deals with constituent aspects (identifying and semantic, space-time based, linguistic and subject matter), which are examined through the length of long history (that is traditions across centuries) in the comparison to its specific image in the analysed...

Marné čekání na klid. Židovské obyvatelstvo a poválečný pogrom ve slovenských Topoľčanech

Futile Waiting for Peace. Jewish population and Post-War Pogrom in Slovakian Topoľčany

Magdalena Sedlická

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 135-148 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.007

The study deals with the post-war pogrom which happened in September 1945 in a Slovakian city of Topoľčany. The event causes controversial reactions in the present society even after 70 years. The text primarily deals with the reactions of central government and press to the pogrom. The account of Jewish narrators is also given a space to. Political representatives cared about a positive image of Czechoslovakia in abroad and anti-Semitic attacks disrupted such efforts. The research shows that reality contradicted official statements of the Czechoslovakian representatives who condemned anti-Semitic manifestations. The article outlines problems, which...

The cultures of the ancient Near East, which after their decline had disappeared from the map of the world and had faded into obscurity, were rediscovered in Modern period, albeit slowly and with great difficulty. Expeditions and archaeological excavations in the Near East, especially since the 19th century, have led to discoveries of vanished cities and their cultures and with them also clay tablets covered with cuneiform script. At first, the languages of Mesopotamia - Akkadian and Sumerian - were deciphered, which made it possible to understand a great number of written sources and ancient oriental literature. At the beginning of the 20th century,...

Nacionální ukotvení rodopisného bádání v českých zemích 1918-1948 (se zvláštním zřetelem na období druhé republiky a nacistické okupace)

National Anchorage of Genealogical Research in the Czech Lands in 1918-1948 (with Regards to the Periods of the Second Czechoslovak Republic and the Nazi Occupation)

Tomáš Pánek

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 185-221 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.009

Genealogy after the year 1918 was understood as means of strengthening national unity in Czechoslovakia by Czech as well as Sudeten side. These traces were found in research, different activities and publications of genealogical institutions (Rodopisná společnost československá, Jednota starých českých rodů, Zentralstelle für sudetendeutsche Familienforschung). During the occupation, there was an attempt of re-orientation of the Sudeten German genealogy towards the Czech-German relations in the past because it was supposed to prove a German origin of certain groups of the Czechs (especially Liberec's Kommission für Rassen- und Sippenforschung). This...

Hampel-Zattigova aféra z jara 1938, její ohlasy a důsledky

Hampel-Zattig's Affair in Spring 1938, Its Reverberation and Consequences

Ondřej Kolář

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 223-233 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.010

The case of injury of a German advocate Hampel-Zattig during the police intervention against a demonstration of the Konrad Henlein's party in Opava raised a wave of interest in the media and political circles. The attack happened during chaotic and tense circumstances, in which certain police officers felt endangered by an alleged shooting. According to the investigation, everything was done according to the procedure, nevertheless, a part of Czech national party and the public interpreted this affair as a concession to the German radicals. German nationalistic press, which was relatively restrained at that time under the influence of Sudeten German...

Noční každodennost v Československu 1945-1960

Everyday Night in Czechoslovakia 1945-1960

Lucie Dušková

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 235-256 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.011

As the alternation of Day and Night is a natural process that influences everyone's life, they are an object of the efforts of control and change. After the World War Two, the night in Czechoslovakia was perceived in connection with war and with work. It was charged by symbolical and mobilizing dimension. After the diminution of the after war enthusiasm, Czechoslovak citizens reclaimed the "right for the night distraction". In order to keep discipline and legitimity, the political power had to react. The night illuminated city became a symbol of socialist distraction and consumerism, in particularities different from the western capitalist cities,...

"Do služeb lidu!" Historické dědictví jako součást ideálu "socialistického města" v období padesátých let

"Do služeb lidu!" Historical Legacy as a Part of the Ideal of "Socialistic City" in the 1950s

Michal Kurz

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 257-287 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.012

The declared aim of a physical and symbolic transformation of cities in post-war eastern bloc became a general vision of "socialistic city" which was supposed to create a corresponding environment for the life and work of the coveted "new man." Most of the settlements in Czechoslovakia were slightly damaged therefore the plans for modernizations had to follow extant building and urbanistic context. The emphasis on the national history and seemingly apolitical projects of historical reconstructions were justified by the power elite of that times, experts and media as an ideologically and functionally natural part of the socialistic project. Wide category...

Život po boku válečného hrdiny (Soužití manželů Soldánových v poúnorovém Československu)

Life with a war hero (Marriage of Zdena and Karel Soldan in communist Czechoslovakia)

Kamil Rodan

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 289-313 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.013

The era after the successful communist coup in February 1948 showed the true character of Czech society. The shift of the elite power structure which changed lives of thousands also touched the lives of a married couple Zdena and Karel Soldan from Prostějov. While the former active fighter in the Czech and foreign resistance faced imprisonment in Mirov fort, his wife transitioned from an active communist to a system antagonist during her teaching career. This study maps the life of the Soldans and their fight for freedom and democracy in the second half of the 20th century.

Role Českého úřadu pro tisk a informace v kulturně-politickém řízení populární hudby v letech 1970-1980

The Role of the Czech Office of Press and Information in Culturally-Political Direction of Popular Music in 1970-1980

Aleš Zapletal

Historica Olomucensia vol. 54 (2018), 315-332 | DOI: 10.5507/ho.2018.014

At the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, there was a process of consolidation in Czechoslovakia, which was supposed to renew the role of the communistic party in all the areas of society weakened by the reform process of the second half of the 1960s. Music, as an important carrier of the reform process, was also influenced. Popular music was especially significant since it was widely important during the relaxed atmosphere of the late 1960s. One of the means of its submission was The Czech Office of Press and Information (Český úřad pro tisk a informace), which was given a role of a controller of the Czech pop lyrics intended for a gramophone release or...
