RT Journal Article SR Electronic A1 Koucká, Ivana T1 Educational Career and Activity of Prof. Josef Dobiáš JF Historica Olomucensia YR 2021 VO 60 IS 1 SP 85 OP 115 DO 10.5507/ho.2021.004 UL https://historica.upol.cz/artkey/hol-202101-0004.php AB The article presented here mainly deals with the secondary school and university teaching career of Prof. Josef Dobiáš (1888-1972), who worked at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University between 1920-1958 and who became the first Czech full professor of ancient Greek and Roman history (1930). The final chapter of the article also compares the educational activities of Josef Dobiáš with those of other contemporary university teachers active in the field of ancient history (Prof. Emanuel Šimek, Prof. Vladimír Groh, Prof. Vojtěch Ondrouch). This article is based primarily on an analysis of archival sources, especially Josef Dobiáš's unprocessed collection stored at the Masaryk Institute and the Archive of the Czech Academy of Sciences.Although Josef Dobiáš prioritised his academic work over his work as a teacher, the collection provides us with a detailed overview of his teaching career. It also demonstrates that his lectures and specialised seminars on the topics of his personal academic work clearly left a positive impression on his students. Especially in the period after the Second World War, J. Dobiáš helped educate a number of other specialists in the individual sub-disciplines related to the study of the antiquity.
