PT Journal AU Pilarova, T TI The Question of Continuation between Roman Collegia and Medieval Arti SO Historica Olomucensia PY 2018 BP 13 EP 31 VL 54 IS 1 DI 10.5507/ho.2018.001 DE guilds; collegia; arti; glossators; Roman law; Middle Ages; continuation; Apennine Peninsula; Florence; judiciary; political power AB A part of the question of the continuation of Roman jurisprudence in the period of early medieval times in the area of the Apennine peninsula is also the problematics of the continuation of guilds. The non-interrupted evolution of guilds from the Classical times to the High Middle Ages, as well as the question of the extent of the Roman legal influence on the form and content of medieval guilds, does not represent an opinionable agreement among legal historians. The small amount of surviving and researched sources does not provide a firm support for an undoubtful claim about continuation or discontinuation of guilds in the Early Medieval Period. Nevertheless, the surviving sources offer a vast range of information to create sufficient theories, which verification can help the research of guilds in High and Late Medieval Ages. As an example of a modification of guilds in the continuation of political, economic and social development was chosen Florence, where guilds acquired extensive influence during the medieval times. ER
