RT Journal Article SR Electronic A1 Lhoták, Jan T1 Some Observations on Seignorial Economy of Bohemian Royal Towns in the Eighteenth Century and its Study Opportunities (the Case of Sušice) JF Historica Olomucensia YR 2017 VO 53 IS 2 SP 161 OP 174 DO 10.5507/ho.2017.031 UL https://historica.upol.cz/artkey/hol-201702-0008.php AB The article deals with the analysis of one selected problem from a broad range of topics concerning royal seignorial economy in Early Modern period, the issue only rarely discussed in the Czech historiography. The variety of preserved written sources of individual towns does not allow to compare the situation in a concrete time period. Such a difficulty was eliminated only by so-called Theresian land register (1713-1756), which has been available via the wide edition - summary since 1960s. However, its usage is rather problematic so that through the case of the royal town Sušice (Schüttenhofen) in south-western Bohemia, the author comes to the conclusion that data in summaries do not have to correspond to historical reality. The town of Sušice owned seven meyerhofs during the course of the 18th century, whereas the summary records only three of them. Another differences might be found yard's land area, figures vary at a local level (a description of yards belonging to Sušice from the year 1740) as well as in individual parts of Theresian land registry (dominical property - fase, exaequatorium dominicale). Based on collected data, it may be stated that the total land area of yards owned by Sušice ranged from 250 to 300 hectares and one yard has an average size between 35 and 42 hectares (i.e. approximately 100 or 120 strychů). In comparison with other borough landed estates, it might be concluded that Sušice owned average number of yards (or little bit more), however the town had much less land area belonging to one yard (e.g. Pilsen disposed of 409 strychů).
