AB  - The aim of the study is to describe the process of establishing the totalitarian regime in the region Nový Bydžov in the year 1948 with the emphasis on the role of action committees of the National Front. Events in the region Nový Bydžov confirm the thesis about readiness of establishment of action committees of the National Front. Their existence meant a large intervention into Nový Bydžov's society since these illegitimate bodies of the Communist power reached every sphere of human activities. Besides, during the research it has been managed to document a concrete situation of machinations with electoral results from May 1948 in the region Nový Bydžov. Moreover, a frequently accepted opinion that at a regional level the takeover by the Communist Party was not accompanied by a larger resistance has been disproved. On the contrary, in the region Nový Bydžov significant displays of disagreement with the period events were noticed.
