AB This contribution shows a marriage in the tangle of law, state's interests and the Catholic Church. The presented attitude of the society towards a marriage has been outlined on the basis of legislative amendments of the Czechoslovak state in the area of the marriage law. The development of the marriage law is analysed with respect to the period the first Czechoslovak Republic, resp. "the marriage amendment". The study reveals bills, the course, difficulties and imperfections, which arouse with its application and realization as well as with the effort to eliminate newly-emerged problems. The previous adjustments and changes in the area of the marriage law from the times of Joseph II have been briefly examined with the goal to make a continual transition to "the marriage amendment". The final part of this article occupies itself with the participation of the Catholic Church in the legislative amendments of the marriage law.
