Příspěvek mapuje životní osudy příslušníka československých legií, armády první československé republiky a také protinacistického odboje, generála in memoriam Josefa Mašína. Příspěvek však nezpracovává život Josefa Mašína na základě studia archivních pramenů či literatury na toto téma, ale prostřednictvím vzpomínek syna generála in memoriam Josefa Mašína, Josefa Mašína mladšího, a zároveň doplňuje vzpomínky jeho sestry, Zdeny Mašínové ml.
Časový rozsah vzpomínek Josefa Mašína se dotýká již třicátých let, avšak neomezuje se pouze na životní data jejich otce, líčí také druhou polovinu druhé světové války, kdy byl s bratrem Ctiradem v odboji, stejně jako dobu po roce 1945. Josef Mašín tak vykresluje poválečnou situaci a politikaření, na základě kterého vykrystalizovali skuteční přátelé rodiny Mašínů, díky nimž došlo k adekvátnějšímu uctění památky jejich otce a jeho spolubojovníků. Závěr příspěvku je obohacen vzpomínkami na vlastní životní osudy po roce 1953, kdy se Josef Mašín ml. se svým bratrem Ctiradem a Milanem Paumerem prostříleli do Západního Berlína, vstoupili do americké armády a po odchodu z ní začali, na rozdíl od sestry Zdeny, podnikat a žít ve svobodě.
This article maps the life of a member of the Czechoslovak legions, the army of the first Czechoslovak republic as well as the anti-Nazi resistance, general in memoriam Josef Masin. The life of Josef Masin is not presented on an archive research or literature, but on the memories of his younger son, Josef Masin jr., and complements the memories of his sister, Zdena Mašínová jr.
The time range of the memories of Josef Mašín jr. slightly touches the 1930s but is not limited by his father's death in 1942. It also describes the other half of World War II when Josef Masin jr. was in the anti-Nazi resistance with his brother as well as the aftermath of World War II.
In Masin's opinion, the period after 1945 showed who the true friends of the Masin family actually were and who helped to make sure that the memory of their fallen father and his fallen comrades in arms remained.
At the end, this article is enriched with his own memories of the time period after 1953, when Josef Masin jr., his brother Ctirad and their friend Milan shot their way to Western Berlin to become US soldiers and later, after they left the US army, unlike their sister Zdena, to become entrepreneurs and live in freedom.
