Ladislav Vymětal, význačný rodák z Jaroměřic u Jevíčka, byl velkým milovníkem anglického jazyka a jemu se také po celý svůj, bohužel krátký, život intenzivně věnoval. Působil jako profesor angličtiny v Praze a jako autor mnoha učebnic angličtiny byl v meziválečném Československu velkým průkopníkem na poli anglistiky. Učebnic gramatiky a učebních textů vydal přes dvacet, hlavně v Praze pro anglický institut, na němž působil, ale také v Brně. Jeho učebnice byly opakovaně vydávány a užívány ještě dlouho po roce 1945. Byl ale také významným překladatelem anglicky psaných románů, z nichž nejvýznamnějším je bezesporu první překlad slavné knihy Jamese Joyce Odysseus do českého jazyka. Ladislav Vymětal zemřel na srdeční mrtvici dne 15. srpna 1940 v rodných Jaroměřicích u Jevíčka, kde je také pochován na místním hřbitově.
Ladislav Vymětal, the prominent native from Jaroměřice near Jevíčko, was the big enthusiast of the English language which he intensively focused on during his unfortunately short life. He worked as an English teacher in Prague and as an author of many English textbooks, he was a great pioneer in the field of English Philology in interwar Czechoslovakia. He published over twenty grammar books and textbooks for the English Institute in Prague, where he also worked, and then another books in Brno. His textbooks have been repeatedly published and used for a long time after the year 1945. Moreover, he was a significant translator of English written novels, of which the most important is certainly the first translation of the famous book Odysseus by James Joyce into Czech. Ladislav Vymětal died from a heart attack on 15 August 1940 in his hometown Jaroměřice near Jevíčko, where was buried in the local cemetery.
